DescriptionSmall box with flat bottom, straight sides, hinged domed lid with wrought iron catach and box lock at front; posts for bail handle (missing) at center top; top and sides covered with brown leather and hand tooled with vine border and criss-cross pattern; interior covered with old book paper printed with a religious tract, and printed over that with a design of small dots.

Label TextProduced in 18th-century England as a document box for the safe storage of papers, this leather covered box became a "doll trunk" at a later date as it was passed down through the generations. The donor of this box stated that was its use at Epping Forest, the Ball family home in Lancaster County, Virginia.
