DescriptionCastanets are of usual form with lobed bodies and eared tops through which holes are drilled at each end and ribbon threaded to make each pair. The bodies of each pair have a ridge down the center, and the inside of each part is hollowed out in a concave shape to form the resonance chamber. Each pair has a slightly different interior space so that the castanet labeled "R" sounds about a third of an octave lower than the castanet labeled "L".MarkingsStamped on outside of each half: "I PLATTS/LONDON."
Stamped inside each half of left, under maker's mark: "L"
Stamped inside each half of right castanet, under maker's mark: "R"
