DescriptionSilver coffee jug with a baluster body set atop three faceted legs topped with oval attachments and resting on pad feet. Its stepped and domed lid is topped with a compressed knop and lifted by a scrolled thumbpiece. Five round-topped flutes and an upside-down pear-shaped drop embellish its cast spout which is closed by a hinged lid. The hardwood C-scroll handle has two carved furls and is pinned into an ornate socket at each end.InscribedEngraved "WAEA" in feathered script on the right side of the body's widest point.
MarkingsBottom of body struck with three marks including "K" in relief within a conforming surround (possibly the warranty mark for July 1773 to July 1774) and Vancombert's "J T over V" flanking a pomegranate below a crowned fleur-de-lis, all in relief within a shaped surround. The third mark is incomplete but is likely the relief "Crown A" charge mark in use from October 1768 through November 1774.
